Anyone who has played Final Fantasy VII is familiar with the materia system. I actually see it as a good way to enhance the customization possibilities of the characters, but there are a few things that keep on kickin' my skull... First of all, like you saw on the comic, why don't they just cram their weapons with the stuff? Specially Cloud, who has enough space on that blade to put in ALL the materia there is to collect in the game! Sure, it would look like a fucking christmas tree, but at least he'd be able to bust Sephiroth's ass just fine!

Another thing that bugs me is that they don't act as some sort of "enhancements"... They actually are the key to determine how will your characters behave in battle. While this might be good in some cases, it also kinda ruins the concept of having unique characters. Except for limit breaks, there are no specialties, no unique abilities whatsoever. Sure, they have different stats, but if you think that's enough to make a character unique, you really have one hell of a shallow mind...
